The ultimate vision for the Primary Bedroom was to establish a relaxing haven. The design journey started with architectural detailing, then moved on to infuse bold patterns and rich, saturated tones and colors. Inspiration was drawn from vintage textiles. Various vignettes around the room were created to underscore luxury, a cozy, cocooned ambiance, and richness and depth in material.
Marie Flanigan was one of the featured designers for the 2024 Living by Design Showhouse, a virtual concept home sponsored by brands like Dunn-Edwards, California Closets, and Kohler, among others.
In that project, Marie Flanigan spec’d out Dunn-Edwards paint colors for the Primary Suite, showcasing soft, serene neutrals that align with her signature elegant, timeless style. The Showhouse was a collaboration between House Beautiful and the Virtual Showhouse platform, and it offered national visibility for Dunn-Edwards within high-end interior design circles.

Do you recommend that doors be painted vertically (on hinges) or horizontally (on sawhorses)?
In a perfect world, doors should be painted horizontally and dried vertically. A freshly-painted door which is allowed to dry in a horizontal position will frequently serve as a magnet to airborne dust. This dust, as well as other imperfections, can be eliminated by lightly sanding between coats. After application of the final coat, doors which have been painted in a horizontal position should immediately be moved into a vertical position against a wall, with the wet side at a slight downward angle.
On simple door re-coat projects involving one or two coats, it is normally best to paint doors in place, on their hinges.
